What is a Default Priority?
نویسنده
چکیده
The notion of default priority has played a central role in default reasoning research. We show that Pearl’s Z-ranking of default rules need not always correspond to priorities. System Z can still be used for priorities, but perhaps not in the obvious manner. Rather than the Z-ranking of rules, we show that the Zrankings of the negations of the material counterparts of rules correspond naturally to priorities. We also show that the priorities of default rules can be explained in terms of belief revision by appeal to the epistemic entrenchment of the material counterpart of a rule in a theory of expectations in the Theorist sense. Furthermore, Brewka’s notion of preferred subtheories provides a means of improving on Pearl’s 1-entailment, given this connection. These results are demonstrated within the modal logic CO*, a unifying framework for various types of default reasoning and belief revision.

Logic programming without default
? We present a reformulation of the framework of logic programming without default negation, rst suggested by Kakas et al. The resulting formalism is called priority logic programming. Under this formulation, priority is a simple concept: that a rule r of higher priority than r 0 means the application of r blocks that of r 0. We present a transformation from normal logic programs to priority pr...

Resolving connicts between default rules is a major subtask in performing default reasoning. A declarative way of controlling the resolution of connicts is to assign priorities to default rules, and to prevent connict resolution in ways that violate the priorities. This work extends Reiter's default logic with a priority mechanism that is based on lexicographic comparison. Given a default theor...
متن کاملAn Enhanced Traffic Separation Mechanism to Support Real-Time Communication in IEEE 802.11e Networks
In this paper, a new traffic separation mechanism is proposed for IEEE 802.11e networks. Such Traffic Separation Mechanism (TSm) allows the coexistence of CSMA default stations with real-time stations in the same network domain. A station implementing the proposed TSm scheme has the same operating behavior as a default IEEE 802.11e network station, except in what concerns the evaluation of the ...
متن کاملAn Application of Genetic Network Programming Model for Pricing of Basket Default Swaps (BDS)
The credit derivatives market has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade. As such, there is a growing interest in tools for pricing of the most prominent credit derivative, the credit default swap (CDS). In this paper, we propose a heuristic algorithm for pricing of basket default swaps (BDS). For this purpose, genetic network programming (GNP), which is one of the recent evolutiona...
متن کاملPrioritized Autoepistemic Logic
An important problem in data and knowledge representation is the possibility of default rules that conflict. If the application of both of two default rules leads to a contradiction, they cannot both be applied. Systems that support the use of default rules may either remain indifferent or prioritize one rule over the other. In this paper a prioritized version of autoepistemic logic is presente...
